Penman Makes Women’s International Umpiring Debut
Troy Penman tonight makes his women’s international debut on-field at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay as Australia host New Zealand in the first of three T20Is.
Penman has been selected as part of the match official group for duration of the series, being TV Umpire in the second match and on-field again in the third.
He has significant experience in women’s domestic cricket, having officiated 29 WBBL matches and eight WNCL fixtures including the two finals – 2020 and 2024.
Last month he was in the middle for three matches in the women’s A series between Australia and India.
NSW State Umpiring Manager Darren Goodger congratulated Penman on his debut, “He is a person and match official of strength, integrity and exemplary character. An excellent team member.
“So many more enjoyable and positive umpiring experiences await Troy on the back of his commitment to preparation, strong and consistent performances, and excellent attitude.
“We wish him the very best for a successful and enjoyable experience, no doubt the first of many international umpiring opportunities.”
Now a member of the Cricket Australia Contracted Umpire Panel, he has been contracted since 2019, on what was then the Supplementary Umpire Panel.
He debuted in the One-Day Cup in February 2021 when New South Wales hosted Victoria at North Sydney Oval and was on-field for the first time in the Big Bash in January 2022 at Metricon Stadium as Perth Scorchers played Sydney Sixers.
Last year he made his Sheffield Shield debut, officiating the match between Victoria and Queensland at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
Since those debuts, he has now overseen five One-Day Cup matches, sixteen BBL fixtures and two Sheffield Shield matches.
He also umpired the Prime Minister’s XI v Sri Lanka in 2019 and has on-field experience in four U19 men’s ODIs.
Fellow NSWCUSA member Ben Treloar will be TV Umpire for tonight’s match and on-field in the remaining two matches of the series.
Penman will be joined tonight by on-field colleague Drew Crozier, who also makes his women’s international debut.
Daryl Brigham will be Fourth Umpire for the opening match and David Gilbert tonight’s Match Referee.
The series begins at 7.10pm tonight and will be broadcast live on the 7 Network, FOXTEL and Kayo.
