Troy Penman to Make List A Debut

NSWCUSA member Troy Penman has been appointed to make his List A debut in the opening Marsh One-Day Cup match at North Sydney Oval.

When he takes to the field for the New South Wales v Victoria match, Penman becomes the 43rd New South Wales umpire to stand in a List A match.

His debut at the List A level comes in his second season as a member of Cricket Australia’s Supplementary Umpire Panel.

Penman joined the Association in 2010, umpiring his first match in the 2012-13 season in a Fourth Grade fixture at Killara Oval between Gordon and Bankstown.

New South Wales State Umpiring Manager Darren Goodger said of his Premier Cricket debut, “it was impressive. I clearly remember Bankstown captain, Iain Ridley, saying to me after the match that Troy looked to be a very good umpire capable of progressing through the grades.

“Iain was correct and progress Troy did.”

It was the 2014-15 season where Penman made his First Grade debut – coming in the Round 10 match between Northern District and Blacktown at Mark Taylor Oval.

Since that debut, he has accrued 75 First Grade matches amongst a total of 124 matches in Sydney Cricket Association competitions.

Penman has been on-field for five Kingsgrove Sports T20 Cup Finals – including this season’s, held last month at Bankstown Oval – and the 2017-18 First Grade Limited Overs Cup Final.

He officiated four underage national finals across three seasons on the umpiring pathway, including two consecutive U19 Male National Championships Finals.

In each of the last two seasons, Penman has umpired a WBBL semi-final, accounting for two of his 22 matches in the competition since debuting in WBBL|02.

Last season, he was appointed to umpire the WNCL Final which saw Western Australia beat New South Wales for the Ruth Preddy Cup at North Sydney Oval.

He has also officiated in four U19 One Day Internationals and ten matches at state Second XI level.

Goodger said, “this is an opportunity for which Troy is ready and one he has earned on merit. This appointment is wonderful recognition for Troy’s attitude, teamwork and consistent performances in recent seasons.

“We can be very proud of Troy, who he is and this latest opportunity he has received from Cricket Australia, we wish him the very best for his debut in the Marsh One Day Cup.”

His on-field partner for the match will be ICC Elite Panel Umpire Rod Tucker, with fellow Supplementary Panel umpire Claire Polosak the Third Umpire and Steve Bernard the Match Referee.

Penman and Tucker will be working with experienced representative scorers Robyn Sanday (Northern District CC) and Ian Wright (Sydney CC).
