U17 State Challenge Opens 2019-20 Season
The cricket season has officially begun in New South Wales with the U17 State Challenge taking place last weekend in a sunny Coffs Harbour.
The three-day carnival served as a final selection trial for players ahead of the U17 National Championships in Mackay in October.
It also provided a valuable opportunity for State Panel umpires Roberto Howard and Sharad Patel to be on-field as they continue their preparations for the season ahead, including the U17 National Championships, which they have been appointed to.
The pair were joined in Coffs Harbour by Country Umpire Representative Panel member Gary Crombie and James Figallo, who was on the same panel in 2018-19, prior to making the decision to officiate NSW Premier Cricket ahead of this summer.
Also officiating for the duration of the carnival was a team of local scorers, including Matt Campbell, Ann Chard, Scott Chard, Judy Disson and Glenese Welsh. Judy Disson was the recipient of the NSWCUSA Malcolm Gorham Scorer’s Award last season.
