Vale Brett McMillan | 1962-2021

The Association is saddened to advise the passing of NSWCUSA Principal member Brett McMillan, aged 58.

Brett joined the Association in October 1986 before commencing active umpiring in the 1987-88 season.

During the recently completed 2020-21 season, his 34th year as a member, Brett officiated five matches in NSW Men’s Premier Cricket.

This saw his career total reach 289 matches, with 59 of those matches coming in Second Grade – in addition to overseeing matches in NSW Women’s Premier Cricket.

His service to the Association extended beyond the cricket field, he had been one of the Association’s Auditor since 2009, a key role in the Association’s governance.

He also undertook the same role for a number of years for metropolitan affiliated association, the Sydney Women’s CUA.

It was at the 2019 Annual General Meeting where Brett was awarded Principal membership of the Association for his outstanding service to the Association and the wider cricketing community.

Even beyond officiating, Brett was heavily involved in the Blacktown cricket community, spending time as a member of the Blacktown City and District Cricket Association’s Committee of Management.

He was the Secretary and was a Life member of his local Plumpton Glendenning Cricket Club.

Away from the cricket field, Brett was a long-time member of the Sutherland Astronomical Society and acted as a Justice of the Peace.

Brett was a genuine, committed and generous individual who volunteered so much of his time to assist so many people across cricket – match officials, players and administrators alike – and the community beyond.

The condolences and sympathies of the Association are with the family and friends of Mr. McMillan.

A funeral for Mr. McMillan will be held at Pinegrove Memorial Park, Kington St, Minchinbury on Friday 11 June at 11.30am, though please note as a consequence of current Public Health restrictions, attendance is limited to 100 people.
