Abood Awarded Representative Umpire of the Year

National Panel umpire Gerard Abood has again been named Cricket NSW’s Representative Umpire of the Year, receiving the award for the second time at the recent CNSW Awards Evening at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Abood has enjoyed a stellar season, which saw him involved in the Australia v West Indies Men’s T20 International series and appointed to oversee two national finals – on-field for the BBL Final and TV umpire in both the Sheffield Shield & One-Day Cup finals.

He performed strongly on-field in five Sheffield Shield matches, three in the One-Day Cup and ten BBL matches including three finals series matches.

He also recently oversaw the Men’s Premier Cricket First Grade Final, played between St George and Manly Warringah at Cricket Central Oval, the ninth occasion he has officiated the fixture.

Abood is one of the longest-serving members of the National Umpiring Panel, with 2023-24 being his 14th season as a member of the group.

During his time as a contracted umpire he has significant experience both at the international and domestic levels, with a combined 41 men’s and women’s internationals and officiating 14 senior national finals.

He has been on-field for 83 first-class matches since debuting in November 2008, including the 2018 Sheffield Shield Final at Allan Border Field.

Off-field, he makes a significant contribution to Australian cricket as a member of the Playing Conditions Advisory Committee, which determines the regulations that national competitions are played under.

The award was selected from the 12 umpires representing New South Wales officiating in Cricket Australia’s professional competitions, with four umpires on the National Panel, three on the Supplementary and the five members of the NSW State Umpire Panel.

Cricket NSW and NSWCUSA would like to take the opportunity to congratulate all of the umpires on these three panels, while also thanking all of our wonderful officials across the entire cricket landscape for their service to cricket in season 2023-24.
