Claydon in Middle for U17 Male National Final

NSWCUSA’s Mitch Claydon has been appointed by Cricket Australia to officiate today’s U17 Male National Championship Final at Kingston Twin Ovals.

Claydon officiated yesterday’s semi-final which saw Queensland triumph over Victoria Country by 86 runs to seal their place in the decider.

He will be joined in the middle by former Australian fast-bowler, now South Australian umpire, Peter George as NSW Metro face Queensland.

The pair officiated together earlier in the carnival when NSW Country faced South Australia, also at Kingston Twin Ovals.

Claydon earlier officiated Queensland on the second day of the tournament, when they accounted for Northern Territory in a seven-wicket win.

Since debuting in Men’s Premier Cricket six years ago he has officiated 55 matches, including 33 fixtures First Grade, the first of which came in 2019-20 when Sydney University hosted St George in a Round 14 two-day clash at University Oval.

That same season saw him attend his first underage national carnival, the U15 Male event, hosted in Ballarat; as well as win the Panel 2 Medal with a match average of 4.96 across the season.

This is the first time the U17 carnival has been held since the pandemic took hold – with NSW beaten finalists when it was last held in 2019-20 – losing to Western Australia by one run in a thriller played in Mackay.

In making the final, NSW Metro have now appeared in the final of each of the underage carnivals played this season – also facing Queensland in the U19 Male tournament in Adelaide in December.

The tournament saw four one-day matches played in the preliminary round before the top four progressed to the semi-finals.

The match commenced at 11am AEDT and can be watched live HERE
