Finding the Gaps | Simon Taufel

In addition to his ongoing work in the match officiating sphere in the Southern Highlands and beyond, NSWCUSA Life Member Simon Taufel is now a published author.

His book, Finding the Gaps, draws upon lessons learned during his extensive umpiring career as well as considerable time spent in coaching, training and administration.

It is an opportunity for Simon to share his successes, failures and learnings with a broader audience; the critical takeaways from the highs, the lows, what it takes to become world class, to stay there and to exit on your own terms.

On field, Simon was a five-time ICC Umpire of the Year and was a part of the ICC’s Elite Panel of Umpires, standing in 74 Tests prior to his retirement in 2012.

Off the field, he took over as the ICC’s Umpire Performance and Training Manager, remaining in the role until September 2016, when he took on the role of Match Referees Manager at Cricket Australia.

Currently living in the Southern Highlands, Simon continues to travel the world speaking at business institutions and training executives in leadership, values and integrity.

Writing Finding the Gaps is a way for Simon to share his learnings by way of transferable soft skills which can be applied by anyone looking to be the best they can be.

Simon discusses a number of factors that he believes contribute to success, including the influence of attitude, teamwork, routines, focus amongst many other influences.

The book is forwarded by Sachin Tendulkar, a testament to the relationships Simon has built and established during his career.

The 288-page book is a must-read for those looking to give themselves the best opportunity to succeed in any area.

At the Association’s December Ordinary General Meeting, Simon generously donated 100 advance copies of the book, with funds directed to the education and development of NSWCUSA members, also hosting a book signing after the meeting.
